The me+™ recovery programme, provides advice and support about the importance of movement and physical activity after stoma surgery.

The programme aims to aid recovery, improve long term outcomes and potentially reduce the risk of parastomal hernia. The evidence-based programme and 2-day RCN-accredited nurse education course are the first and only of their kind in stoma care.

What are the aims?

  • To enhance your recovery and get you back to your daily activities as soon as possible.

  • To rebuild your confidence and improve your general wellbeing after stoma surgery.

  • To help restore your mobility, co-ordination and balance.

  • To engage and strengthen your tummy muscles after abdominal surgery.

  • To reduce your risk of developing a parastomal hernia by strengthening your tummy muscles

Have you had stoma surgery? You can access the full me+recovery programme which consists of a recovery handbook, 3 movement phases, videos and online support by registering for the me+™ programme. Materials and course content were developed in conjunction with nurses, patients and reviewed by experts in physiotherapy and colorectal surgery. Are you a stoma care nurse or healthcare professional?
