New ConvaTec Academy™ portal includes accredited CE courses to help advance best practices, support better patient outcomes and reduce costs

SKILLMAN, NJ (January 16, 2014)  ConvaTec, a leading global medical products and technologies company, announced today the launch of a new series of continuing education offerings for healthcare practitioners focused on wound and skin care.  Available through the ConvaTec Academy online portal, the offerings include accredited CE courses for nurses and other healthcare practitioners. Clinicians can directly access the courses along with additional product-related education at www.convatecacademy.com.

The new, accredited continuing education series includes four modules ― two each on wound and skin care. The skin care courses cover preventative skin care and incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD).   The wound care courses cover wound assessment and documentation, as well as pressure ulcer prevention and management. Accredited by AKH Inc, (Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare), each of the four modules offers one-hour of continuing education credit.

In addition to the ConvaTec Academy portal, the CE series is also available through the HealthStream Learning Management System for health systems and integrated delivery networks. Clinicians who successfully complete the courses will receive training certificates, and education managers at participating facilities can easily access reports summarizing course participation and results for their staff.

All of the resources on the ConvaTec Academy portal further complement the ConvaTec Solutions™ program of evidence-based, clinically-validated algorithms for wound and skin care.   Designed to be easily followed and replicated, the algorithms combine specific care delivery processes with product formularies and can be customized for facilities based on the organization’s patient population, needs and resources.

“At ConvaTec, we’re pleased to offer educational resources and tools focused on clinical issues of critical importance to providers and their patients,” said Mark Valentine, President, Americas. “These new resources advance best practice care standards, drive effective utilization, empower staff, optimize use of facility resources and, most importantly, help improve patient outcomes and reduce the total cost of care.”
